California Chamber of Commerce Votes to Oppose
Proposition 98 on the June Ballot
Sacramento, CA -- The California Chamber of Commerce voted to oppose Proposition 98 at its March 14 Board of Directors meeting. In particular, the CalChamber board cited concerns about Prop. 98's potential impact on needed water infrastructure projects and our state's economic growth.
Prop. 98 on the June 2008 ballot will jeopardize water infrastructure projects, destroy land use planning, encourage NIMBY lawsuits and eliminate rent control.
The Chamber joins a broad and diverse coalition including AARP, Silicon Valley Leadership Group, League of California Homeowners, League of Women Voters of California, National Wildlife Federation, California Teachers Association, California Police Chiefs Association, California Fire Chiefs Association and many others. The CalChamber did not take a position on Proposition 99, also on the June ballot.

Clearly Prop 98 is the worse of the two laws. Both of these law will allow slum owners to perpetuate the unacceptable living conditions for the poor. The CRA in Los Angeles has remove slums and replaced them with decent housing. These laws will put the CRA out of business.
Without a speakers bureau that will spread the word about the damaging effects of Prop 98 and 99 these proposals will become law.
